D-Day is remembered across Bridgend County Borough

Events across the county borough are planned to mark June 6, 2024, the 80-year anniversary of D-Day, the largest seaborne invasion in history. Codenamed ‘Operation Overlord’, more than 150,000 Allied troops landed on five beaches in Normandy using ships and landing craft, laying the foundations for Germany’s defeat in World War II (WWII).

Action packed BeachFest event heads to Porthcawl

Bridgend County Borough Council is supporting an action-packed weekend of beach sports, family fun, lifeboat displays and more under the banner of BeachFest@Porthcawl, which also includes the return of RNLI’s RescueFest event for first time since 2019.

Already shining a spotlight on women’s football through the success of former pupil, Tianna Teisar, who plays football for Wales Under 19s and Bristol City Ladies’ teams, Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd continues to encourage more female students to succeed in the game.
