Strategic Regeneration Grants
Our current grants support commercial property improvements that will regenerate and improve town centres (Bridgend, Porthcawl and Maesteg), district centres (Aberkenfig, Kenfig Hill, Ogmore Vale, Pencoed, Pontycymmer and Pyle), and the local service centres of the Garw, Llynfi and Ogmore Valleys (Bettws North, Bettws South, Blackmill, Blaengarw, Caerau, Nantymoel and Pontrhydycyff).
Purpose of fund:
To convert vacant floor-space on upper floors into new residential accommodation. The minimum requirement from each scheme is 1 x 1 bedroom self-contained flat.
Schemes are expected to be a mix of one and two bedroom units with ratio determined by layout of building and planning consent.
Schemes should comply to the minimum floor space as recommended in the most up to date Welsh Housing Quality Standards, currently this is:-
- 46m² per one bedroom flat
- 59m² per two bedroom flat
Student accommodation, bedsits and studios are not eligible for grant funding.

Up to 70% in exceptional circumstances

Purpose of fund:
The Property Improvement Grant is available to commercial building occupiers and owners within town centres. Its purpose is to enhance building frontages together with the upgrade of vacant commercial floor space to bring it back into beneficial business use.

Up to 70% in exceptional circumstances

Purpose of fund:
The provision of outdoor seating, planters, coverings, servery areas and building canopies.

Bridgend, Maesteg and Porthcawl Town Centres
Grant rate:
Up to 50% in exceptional circumstances

This will be subject to on-going review.
Purpose of fund:
There are two elements to this:
- To enhance building frontages and bring vacant commercial floor space back into beneficial use, by supporting commercial property frontage improvements, along with other external and internal works.
- To convert vacant upper-floor space into new residential accommodation above commercial units, including internal and external works to bring vacant space back into use for residential purposes.

- Pyle

Grant rate:
The grant will be a maximum of 80% of reasonable eligible costs, up to a maximum grant award of:
- £30,000 for occupied properties
- £49,999 for properties that have been vacant for more than 6months
