Ultra-low emission vehicle (ULEV) infrastructure continues its roll out

In line with the council’s aim to reach Net Zero Carbon by 2030 and supported by Welsh Government funding, the ULEV infrastructure continues its roll out, with phase one of several stages to be completed at the end of the month.

With four phases to the installation process, Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) will be leading on EV chargers to be installed at council owned public car parks and Bridgend County Borough Council will focus on EV charger installation at leisure centres, council offices and depots.

CCR will focus on phase one sites, where there will be between two to four chargers available per site, which will be fully operational by the end of May.

There are two apps, the Connected Kerb and Zap Map, which provide drivers with relevant information about the chargers.  The later phased sites are currently work in progress and are not yet connected to the infrastructure.

Phase two sites will also be led by CCR, and the majority of them have the charger units already installed – they are awaiting power connection from the National Grid.  These sites will be joining the infrastructure from June onwards and are predicted to be completed by September.

We will be taking ownership of the phase three installations of the EV chargers, which are scheduled to be delivered by August.

The needs of the council’s fleet and site visitors, including the public who access the named leisure facilities, have all been considered in relation to the location of the chargers – thereby supporting the council’s fleet decarbonisation plans to reach Net Zero Carbon by 2030.

Residential and public charging encompasses phase four.  Working with the CCR team, the council will identify a further batch of sites to support areas with a high density of terraced properties to access nearby chargers on council owned land.   These sites are currently under assessment for the financial year 2023-24.

We are enthused by the forthcoming ULEV infrastructure and the positive impact that it promises to have on the environment – we are extremely proud that we can play our part.
