Children and young people across Bridgend County Borough can look forward to an action-packed programme of activities and events this summer.
In partnership with Awen Cultural Trust, Halo Leisure, The Urdd, Menter Bro Ogwr, Playworks and town and community councils, there are lots of fun activities available for children and young people including sports, games, arts and creative activities and events.
The popular ‘Active 4 Life’ holiday schemes, which are supported by town and community councils, will once again return to community venues throughout the county borough including Betws Life Centre, Brackla Sports Centre (Archbishop McGrath), Bridgend Life Centre, Garw Valley Life Centre, Maesteg Sports Centre, Ogmore Valley Life Centre, Pencoed Comprehensive School, and Porthcawl (West Park Primary School). Not for profit organisation, Playworks, are also supporting a scheme at Noddfa Chapel in Caerau.
To be eligible for ‘Active 4 Life’, children must be aged between eight and 11-years-old. These sessions, which are not designed to be an alternative to childcare, will run on a Monday to Friday, between 10am and 2pm. Sessions include a fun mix of sport, games, creative and arts/craft-based activities. More information can be found on the council’s website.
Young people are also being encouraged to take part in this year’s ‘Summer Reading Challenge’, which is run in Partnership with Awen Cultural Trust. The theme is ‘Marvellous Makers’, which aims to fire up children’s imaginations and unleash storytelling and creativity through the power of reading. Halo Leisure have lots on offer including their free swim initiative which includes crash courses for beginners and stroke improvement lessons, for children under the age of 16.
12–17-year-olds can enjoy unlimited access to all Halo centres during the summer holidays by buying a Teen Fit Hit summer pass for £40. Pass holders will be able to use the gym, swim, join group exercise classes, and more.
Passes are on sale now and the price is fixed, so it’s £40 no matter when you sign up in July. Available onsite at your local Halo centre or over the phone (Not online). More information about the Teen Fit Hit Summer Pass is available on Halo’s website.
Menter Bro Ogwr are running Welsh Language Play Schemes throughout the summer at Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg y Ferch o’r Sgêr, Ysgol Cynwyd Sant, Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Ogwr and Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Calon y Cymoedd. For further details, visit Menter Bro Ogwr’s Facebook Event page.
