New in-house grass cutting service moves a step closer

Bridgend County Borough Council’s plans to provide a new in-house grass cutting service have moved a step closer following the approval of necessary funds by Full Council.

The move is part of the council’s commitment to working in collaboration and delivering a long-term approach to meet the needs of residents across the county borough.

Earlier this year, the council’s Cabinet approved plans to bring the service back in-house and the now agreed capital funds of £340,000 will enable essential equipment to be purchased ahead of the spring 2025 start date.

The service is responsible for cutting grass on council owned land such as certain playgrounds, central reservations, highway verges, playing fields and public open spaces.

We are determined to provide the best services as possible and it’s clear from our interactions with residents that improvements to the maintenance of our green spaces and environment is a priority for many communities across the county borough.

These funds will ensure that we can deliver a future proofed service which is sustainable for many years to come. It will also allow us to build on our work to improve and protect biodiversity at a range of locations.

The new service will also give the team greater control and flexibility which will help with factors such as long-term planning and resilience.

Cllr John Spanswick, Leader of Bridgend County Borough Council
