Glowing Estyn report for Pen-y-Fai Church in Wales Primary School

Monday 07 April 2025

During a recent Estyn inspection, the many strengths of Pen-y-Fai Church in Wales Primary School were identified by inspectors, who praised the “happy and vibrant” school especially for its inclusivity and Early Years’ provision.

Considered “excellent” and succeeding in developing “a firm foundation for future learning”, the school’s Early Years’ education provision was commended for encouraging the children’s curiosity and instinct to explore.  Observation being key to planning activities that challenge and engage pupils, staff also use their keen and astute observations to adapt teaching strategies to accommodate learners.

Inspectors also noted how inclusivity is championed at the school, with leaders having a clear focus on improving outcomes for every learner, irrespective of pupils’ background and prior learning – contributing to a sense of belonging to the school’s warm and welcoming community.

Supportive, nurturing language used by staff when engaging with pupils positively impacts the children’s behaviour, and the ‘pupil voice’ work undertaken at the school creates opportunities for all children, including those with additional learning needs, to develop their leadership skills.

The Estyn report highlighted that there are robust procedures in place for evaluating the school’s strengths and areas for improvement, while shared responsibilities across the staff ensure that priorities are manageable and addressed promptly.

“We are all so pleased that the fantastic pupils and staff at Pen-y-Fai Church in Wales Primary School have received the recognition that they deserve.
