Food safety risk prompts urgent product recall

The Food Standards Agency and Shared Regulatory Service are warning people about a range of items produced by Bread Spread Ltd which have been found to be unsafe to eat.

The warning covers chilled and ready-to-eat foods sold under the brand names of Bread Spread, Orbital Foods and Perfect Bite.

Ranging from baguettes, French sticks and sandwiches to rolls, wraps and pasta salads, the affected products all have a use-by date of up to and including 20 May 2024.

The contaminated products are believed to have been exposed to pathogenic bacteria called Listeria Monocytogenes which can cause fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. In rare cases, it can also cause more severe complications such as meningitis.

The products are known to have been supplied to food businesses across the UK, including catering establishments and corner shops.

An urgent product recall is in place and a full list of the affected items can be found at the Food Standards Agency website.
