Council workers prepare for Storm Agnes

Residents of Bridgend County Borough are being urged to take care and to plan ahead as the UK awaits the arrival of Storm Agnes.

Yellow weather warnings have been put in place across the whole of Wales for Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 September amid anticipations of heavy rain and wind speeds that could reach as high as 80mph in places.

The Met Office has advised people across the UK to expect disruption including damage to buildings and roofs, power cuts, transport delays, road and bridge closures and some minor flooding.

Workers from Bridgend County Borough Council are already busy making preparations for the storm, which is the first of the season.

Crews are checking gulleys, culverts and drains to make sure they are clear before the storm arrives, and will also be preparing stocks of sandbags which can be distributed to householders if required.

Workers will be on duty throughout the storm along with equipment ranging from JCBs and chainsaws to specialist gulley jets to help keep roads open and homes, people and property safe.

Coastal areas are expected to receive the worst of the high winds that Storm Agnes may bring, so please take care if venturing out.

As usual, our council workers will be out during the worst of the storm making sure that people are safe, roads remain clear and damage is kept to a minimum.
