Council teams work throughout the weekend to fight flooding across the borough

Council staff have been working throughout the past weekend to distribute sandbags, clear drains and gullies and prevent widespread flooding in Bridgend County Borough.

Teams were out between 8pm to 4am on Friday 06 September and between 5am to 8pm on Saturday 07 September, answering 50 calls and delivering sandbags to a property in Castle View in Bridgend.

Several properties had gullies checked and were found to be clear at the time of inspection, with swift action taken to assist properties in Elm Crescent in Bryntirion, Greenfields Avenue in Bridgend, Longacre Estate in Brackla, Oaklands Drive in Bridgend, Chestnut Way in Bryntirion and Hafan-y-Bryn in Bridgend.

Several roads, including the Stormy Down roundabout on the A48, Porthcawl Road near South Cornelly and the A473 on Bryntirion Hill, were flooded. Blocked gullies were attended to and cleared, with particular areas under further investigation by the council’s Land Drainage team.

The flooding across Bridgend County Borough has showcased the council’s commitment to working tirelessly to ensure both the safety of residents and our roads.

Our team have been addressing the aftermath of the heavy rainfall along with inspecting the culvert network and I want to extend my sincere gratitude for their fantastic, diligent efforts in keeping residents safe.
