Bridgend County Borough has this week been named as the best performing local authority in Wales for recycling.
Jumping up to take the top spot with a recycling rate of 73%, recent statistics reveal that the county borough has increased its performance by a staggering 17% over the last decade, and 2% since last year.
During the last 12 months, Bridgend County Borough has recycled 39K tonnes of waste including nearly 5,000 tonnes of glass, 11,000 tonnes of organic waste and 6,000 tonnes of paper, with over 9000 tonnes of waste processed at community recycling centres.
"To be named as the top local authority in Wales for recycling is a tremendous achievement and reflects our ongoing commitment to improving the recycling process in the county borough." "I would like to say a big thank you to our residents. The figures released today highlight the continued support we have received from households in their efforts to reduce their waste, with a significant waste reduction of over 100kg per person during the last ten years." "I would also like to thank the waste and recycling collection crews, operatives and staff working behind the scenes. Their hard work and dedication in raising public awareness throughout the community at education and engagement events is a testament to our success. By continuing to work together we can only encourage further efforts and future success in helping to maintain and protect our environment for future generations."
