Rest Bay Sports
Rest Bay Sports was formed in 2018, to manage, improve, expand and maintain the facilities available to the local community. Rest Bay Sports represents FC Porthcawl and Porthcawl United.
Porthcawl United Football Club was founded in 2000 by Tony & Helen Morgan. It was originally established and run as a community football club for Junior (12yrs-16yrs) & Minis (5yrs-11yrs) offering professional coaching to both boys and girls.
FC Porthcawl was established in 2016 and played in the Port Talbot & District Football League.
Rest Bay playing fields and the pavilion has been home to many sports enthusiasts over the last 38 years. In 2018, the fields were primarily directed towards playing football and rugby, but the facilities were in dire need of refurbishment and modernisation to be brought up to FAW standard and to be in line with community needs.
Rest Bay Sports were aiming to provide an inclusive community asset, named the “hub”. BCBC allocated the organisation just over £45,000 towards the cost of redeveloping the pavilion, as well as £10,000 for pitch maintenance from the council’s £1m CAT fund. The total cost of the works exceeded £80k and the organisation obtained funding from other sources in order to achieve their vision.
The pavilion was extended and refurbished at first floor level, providing an elevated balcony overlooking the pitch. The pavilion will become a community hub, enabling people from the local area and beyond to come together.
